2017 Collegiate Retailer of the Year Award Winner

For 20 years, the staff at the Colorado State University Bookstore, Fort Collins, toiled to overcome students’ perceptions that the store was overpriced, indifferent to their needs, and out of touch with contemporary retailing.

“The committee loved all aspects of this campus store,” Tom Hoffa told the March 3 Mega Session audience in presenting the award to Parry and his staff. Hoffa is vice president, channel partnerships, for Pearson Education and the outgoing NACS Foundation president.
Under the eye of Director John Parry, CCR, the store refocused efforts on delivering the products, services, support, and affordability needed by the CSU campus as well as the retail experience craved by students. Those efforts paid off at CAMEX 2017 when the store was recognized with the NACS Foundation’s Collegiate Retailer of the Year Award, a competitive honor that salutes overall collegiate retailing excellence.

The CROY Award, bestowed every other year by the Foundation’s Board of Directors, includes a $5,000 prize underwritten by the Tommye and Keith Miller Endowment.

In selecting the CSU Bookstore, the judges were impressed with the many partnerships and collaborations the store has established with campus departments and organizations, as well as in the community. Among those is a “School is Cool” program that furnishes school supplies to local K-12 students.
