As the NACS Foundation continues its work to invest in the next generation of leaders, it is equally important to recognize those whose leadership has already shaped the independent campus store industry in meaningful and lasting ways.

With this in mind, the Foundation Board of Directors is proud to present its highest honor, the Brian Cartier Distinguished Service Award, to Stephen Hochheiser.

This award recognizes individuals whose vision, leadership, and service have significantly advanced the industry and strengthened the campus store community. Stephen exemplifies these qualities through his sustained commitment and far-reaching impact.

Throughout his career, Stephen has been a driving force behind key initiatives that have helped define and elevate the role of campus stores in higher education. As a tireless champion of the Campus Store Standards Project, he played a critical role in bringing the initiative to life by developing messaging, authoring articles, creating presentations, and engaging directly with industry leaders. His work helped clarify and communicate the essential value campus stores provide to their institutions and students.

Stephen was also an early and passionate advocate for the Campus Store Insights platform. Recognizing the power of data, he helped advance efforts that enable stores to demonstrate their impact and make more informed, strategic decisions. Today, that work continues to empower campus stores to tell their story in measurable and meaningful ways.

At his core, Stephen is a storyteller. He is someone who understands that the strength of the industry lies in its ability to connect its work to student success, institutional goals, and the broader mission of higher education. Through his leadership, he has helped the Foundation and the industry articulate a clearer, stronger vision for the future.
