A Foundation Year of Giving
Torchlight | Summer 2009
The remarkable generosity of our donors has allowed the Foundation to have a significant impact on the college store industry this past year. Here is a brief summary:
- Earmarked $300,000 to launch the NACS Foundation's most significant research project to "Research, define and promulgate the college store of 2015," in partnership with TNS Retail Forward.
- Sent 89 college store buyers to CAMEX 2009—88% wrote orders during the tradeshow with a cost savings between $1,000-5,000 per buyer. Supported the attendance of 18 additional members to Innovate, Xtreme, CRI and CCRA.
- Funded the development and execution of five multi-week online courses on Mastering Open to Buy, In-store Marketing and Visual Merchandising, and Course Materials Management, with a total of 144 attendees.
- Provided program support for the second Innovate! Conference and the ever popular Xtreme Retailing conference series.
- Underwrote CAMEX 2009 Catalyst Sessions and Discussion Forums to engage members in "deep thinking" about issues and trends critical to successful campus retail.
- Funded 16 facilitator-led programs at 12 state Funded 16 and regional college store association meetings, educating 479 attendees.
- Underwrote the 16th annual Student Watch Campus Market Research on Student Attitudes & Buying Habits Revealed: An in depth analysis on textbooks and course materials. Offered a $400 dollar grant to colleges and universities to get the report at an affordable price due to the tough economy.
- At CAMEX 2008, the Foundation presented $12,000 on behalf of the College Store Industry to Greg Mortenson, author of Three Cups of Tea and director of the Central Asia Institute to build a school for girls in Pakistan. The school has been completed and students have been provided with educational supplies for learning.
Thank you for supporting the Foundation's 27 years of service to the college store industry as we seek new opportunities to strengthen and improve its vitality.
